Frenchie, Duende, Eneko at One Aldwych, Detox Kitchen & 100 Wardour

New bars and restaurants are constantly opening their doors in London so it’s often hard to keep track of things. We’ve selected some of our new favourites.

Frenchie – Acclaimed Parisian restaurant arrives in Covent Garden

Frenchie is the new restaurant from French chef, Greg Marchand, who spent several years in London cooking notably at the Savoy, Mandarin Oriental and Fifteen, where the kitchen nickname “Frenchie” stuck.

Following the huge success of Frenchie, Frenchie Wine Bar, Frenchie To Go in Paris, Greg is returning to London to open his first British venture on Henrietta Street, Covent Garden this month.

The menu at Frenchie Covent Garden will echo its Parisian counterpart with simple and generous, yet precise dishes heavily influenced by Greg’s travels from London to New York through Spain and Hong Kong. It will also host an ever-changing, carefully selected wine list and seasonal cocktails.

Eneko at One Aldwych – Acclaimed Basque chef opens first UK restaurant

Renowned for his three Michelin-starred restaurant Azurmendi in Bilbao, Basque chef, Eneko Atxa, is heading in a new direction with a 110-cover restaurant and 35-cover wine bar in London.

The Basque country is synonymous with gastronomy, where good food and good wine are an every day part of the culture.

Opening this month in the five-star hotel, One Aldwych, Eneko Atxa will showcase his commitment to quality ingredients and precise execution and offer a relaxed, fun and inventive menu that is deeply rooted in traditional Basque cooking.

The restaurant will also feature a floating wine bar located on the mezzanine offering a carefully crafted Basque wine list, including the house Gorka Izagirre Txakoli, a crisp white wine from Eneko’s own vineyards.

Duende – Spanish tapas in Covent Garden

Translating loosely as ‘magic’, ‘spirit’ or ‘charm’, Duende is both the name and ethos of a new restaurant on Maiden Lane from Victor Garvey, co-founder of critically-acclaimed, Bravas Tapas.

In a beautifully designed, warm and welcoming informal room, diners can watch chefs preparing dishes such as cured salmon rulada, crispy sweet potato, red onion escabeche and wasabi alioli; foie gras crema Catalana; and Iberico pork belly with piquillo pepper glaze, in the open kitchen. Duende is a very welcome addition to the Covent Garden food scene.

Detox Kitchen – Healthy eating in Fitzrovia

Founder Lily Simpson and her team first launched The Detox Kitchen as a daily home delivery service in March 2013 and has amassed a celebrity following, including Elle Macpherson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Suki Waterhouse and Sophie Dahl.

The Detox Kitchen has since opened a deli in Kingly Street, offer ‘Grab & Go’ products sold in Harvey Nichols, Selfridges, Planet Organic and published The Detox Kitchen Bible in May 2015. Opening this month, their latest Deli, which will be their flagship store, is on Fitzroy Place.

There is a salad and juice bar on the ground floor serving signature salads and green juices and an eat-in sharing menu of small plates and salads. The basement level houses a fully equipped fitness studio offering yoga to high-intensity interval training classes.

If sticking to those New Year resolutions is a challenge, The Detox Kitchen might be the perfect place to start 2016 on the right foot.

100 Wardour – Soho’s new living room

100 Wardour Street is a new destination for drinking, dining, working and playing in Soho. Open from breakfast, right through until the small hours, the Lounge serves great coffee, tasty snacks and provides free WiFi for those who need to escape the office.

At night, the short cocktail menu and prosecco on tap makes it an ideal space for after-work drinks. Down in the basement, the venue draws on its heritage as the historic Marquee Club with a French-inspired menu, vibrant live music programme, plush booths, bottle service and most importantly, it is open ‘til late.
